Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ
Baptism is one of the commandments the Holy Spirit gave in the book of Acts. We baptize the way the believers in the book of Acts were baptized: in water, in the name of Jesus Christ.
What the Bible says
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
“Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

What it means
Peter's words give three steps:
- Repent
- Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins
- Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
The promise is for you, for your children, and for everyone far away, as many as the Lord our God will call.
